Nunome inlay (zōgan)

From time to time, the comfortable hammering sound of inlaying is echoing in the atelier.

Nunome inlay (zōgan) is an ancient traditional Japanese metal inlay technique, traditionally used to decorate sword guards.

At Blue Dove, students can learn how to do nunome inlay, as well as how to create the tools needed for it. This is the traditional way of Japanese metalsmiths.

Nowadays, nunome inlay is also commonly used to decorate jewelry. Something we believe all Japanese jewelry makers should know how to do. DOVE is always looking for people who want to become professionals, so teach and to guide. So feel free to come take a class with us!
